About Us

Sanford Collegiate is a Grade 9 to 12 high school committed to the pursuit of excellence and to providing a safe and enriched educational community which encourages life-long learning and social responsibility. Our reputation for academic excellence is related to the commitment of teachers and students, the support of the community, and programs which challenge students to maximize their potential growth.

The timetable is designed to best serve course requirements and the needs of our students. We operate using the semester system. The daily schedule is composed of 5-66 minute classes, 3 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon.

We offer a broad range of courses designed to meet the needs of our students. We strive to ensure that all students will have the opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge and values necessary to be successful.

The School Creed

Sanford Collegiate desires to create a respectful, open-minded environment in which academics, athletics, diversity of opportunities and a sense of community are of equal value. We wish to have our school seen as a good place to be, a place students want to attend.

Location

Sanford Collegiate is located on Highway No. 3 ten minutes south-west of McGillivray Blvd. and the perimeter highway. Our school is in the Red River Valley School Division. Students from communities of Fort Whyte, Oak Bluff, Domain, Sanford, Brunkild, Starbuck and Springstein attend our school. In addition, students living in Carman, Sperling, LaSalle and south and west Winnipeg attend Sanford Collegiate through Schools of Choice. The school catchment area borders the Winnipeg suburban areas of Fort Garry, Charleswood and St. James and is located just twenty minutes from the University of Manitoba and fifteen minutes from Winnipeg Technical College. Our enrollment is 380 students.

Programs

The school offers a full academic program, a complete Business Education, Industrial Arts, Home Ecomonics, and a 4 credit Multimedia program. We also offer a number of courses in the area of Fine Arts. Students who are interested in Technology Education may be able to take their academic requirements at Sanford Collegiate and their Technology courses at Winnipeg Technical Centre.

School Year

The school year is divided into two semesters. Final examinations are scheduled at the end of each semester. One credit courses are scheduled every day during the semester and half credit courses are scheduled on alternate days. The school timetable operates on a five period day with three periods in the morning and two periods in the afternoon. In order that no class be overly affected by assemblies, morning announcements or early dismissal for school events, the 3 morning classes rotate and the 2 afternoon classes alternate. The timetable allows students to earn a maximum of five credits per semester and ten credits for the school year. Sanford Collegiate requires students to earn a total of 30 credits to meet graduation requirements which is 2 credits above the provincial requirement of 28 credits.
